Privacy of the Complaint Process

  • Rensselaer will make all reasonable efforts to protect the privacy of all individuals involved in a complaint and investigation, as well as to maintain the privacy of the complaint process including the investigation, any hearing, and, except where permitted by law, the sanctions imposed.

  • Privacy:  Privacy generally means that Rensselaer will only share information related to a sexual misconduct policy complaint with a limited number of Rensselaer employees who have a legitimate need to know in order to assist in the review, investigation, or resolution of the complaint and with the parties involved in the complaint, as necessary, for their role in the process. Throughout the process, every effort will be made to protect the privacy interests of all individuals involved in a manner consistent with the need for a thorough review of the complaint.

  • The complaint process is private and the Institute will inform all parties, including the complainant, the respondent, any advisers, any support persons, and witnesses involved in an investigation or complaint proceeding of the importance of maintaining the privacy and dignity of the process.

  • Respondents are not prohibited from sharing details of the process and information shared with them through it with family, counsel, an adviser, or a support person in order to prepare for their participation in the complaint process or otherwise seek personal support.
